This Ranger came from Ebay. It is in nice, nearly original, unmolested condition. It is a factory-wired example which is a plus. The original Johnson microphone plug had been replaced by a 1/4" plug; the original has been re-installed. The only intended mod is a PTT relay board from D-Lab (N6TLU). It does work on all bands , but power output is low. Also, there is a slight ripple in the signal which indicates the need for new filter capacitors.
I may do a light airbrush restoration on the front panel. Most of the white indicators in the knobs are missing; these will be replaced shortly.
Interesting problem. R-15 is a 30K, 20 Watt resistor. It is running quite warm. It does this in standby. 6146 plate current is not excessive. Have yet to check the 6AQ5 clamper tube, but I hope that is where the high current draw is located.
