The Hammarlund SP-600 JX-26 is another classic of the famous Hammarlund SP-600 series. The US Army Signal Corps designated this version as R-274C/FRR. Intrigued by how well the other SP-600 (JX-17) initially worked with only the main filters replaced, I tried the same with this JX-26. It works too, so the switches and turret contacts were cleaned. Second startup, and this JX-26 works significantly better than the JX-17 on the upper bands. It also tunes SSB signals much more easily. The intial testing is very encouraging.
This receiver has evidence that it has been "worked" on in the past. It also has some damage from rough handling and neglectful disassembly/assembly. The front panel has a few unfortunate major scratches from screwdriver slips.
Top view of the JX-26. It has collected dusty grunge, and the chassis and components show some corrosion.
I now have all the capacitors on hand--just need more time!
