Drake 2B receiver.

I found this receiver online and pulled the trigger.  I know very little about it other than the 2B has a great reputation.

It has not been re-capped, though there is some evidence it had been worked on in the past.  A 20 Amp fuse was found installed; the standard fuse is 0.6 Amps--a 0.5 Amp fuse is now installed.  The seller, another ham, stated it worked, so it was plugged in, antenna and speaker attached.  It does have floor noise but no reception.   The tubes all tested well, and they are all Sylvania.  Original tubes?

Perhaps the 2B had been shaken up in shipping?  After cleaning the tube sockets and switches, it came to life--sort of.  The preselector has areas of shorting in the 80 meter band section; it is good on 10 through 40 meters, but 80 meters is compromised.  The main tuning capacitor has shorts at both the upper and lower frequency ends.  Overall, sensitivity seems down a bit.  I will check resistors, replace the paper capacitors and prep for an alignment check.

Testing the BFO and Product Detector, they both work.  SSB is easily tuned!

This is a continuing project.....
