From my late teens, my test equipment was limited to a military VTVM, signal generator and an old miltary oscilloscope.  Other than the military VTVM, the quality was barely adequate.

In recent years, new equipment has been acquired.  To be clear, HP Agilent gear is a bit out of my range, so Chinese gear is the best I can get.  The gear does work and hopefully will continue for many years.
